Decimal and binary prefixes use different factors
One kB is 1000 bytes and one MB is 1000000 bytes. One KiB is 1024 bytes and one MiB is 1048576 bytes. Therefore 1 MiB equals 1.048576 MB, while 1 MB is about 0.9536743164063 MiB. Use the unit actually stated by the source instead of assuming every storage display uses the same convention.
Convert through bytes
Open Unit converter, choose Data size, and select the source and target units. Multiply by the source unit’s byte factor, then divide by the target factor. As a check, 1024 MiB equals 1 GiB. The toolbox labels decimal kilobytes as kB and binary kibibytes as KiB.
Do not mix file size with transfer speed
A byte contains eight bits, so 8 bit equals 1 B. Network rates are commonly expressed in bits per second, while file sizes are often in bytes. This converter handles data quantities, not download-time predictions; protocol overhead, connection speed changes, and server limits affect real transfer time.
